James “Jim” Avery Buchanan
April 4, 1954 – August 8, 2026 Aged 72 years
James Avery “Jim” Buchanan, age 72, of Aledo, Texas, passed away on August 8, 2026.
Jim was born on April 4, 1954, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, to Robert and Dorothy Buchanan. He served his country in the United States Army and later spent many years working in concrete construction. Jim knew the concrete business inside and out and took great pride in the knowledge and experience he gained throughout his career.
Anyone who knew Jim knew how much he loved sports. He was a devoted Alabama football fan, and “Roll Tide!” was never far from his vocabulary. He also faithfully followed North Carolina Tar Heels basketball, the Atlanta Braves, and the Miami Dolphins. Jim could talk sports with just about anyone and had an incredible memory for players, teams, statistics, and games from years gone by.
Jim was also incredibly knowledgeable about history and had a remarkable memory for the things that interested him. He enjoyed sharing what he knew and could easily turn a conversation into a story about sports, history, or something he’d learned over the years.
Music was another big part of Jim’s life. He enjoyed attending concerts and music festivals, along with countless sporting events and the games and activities of his family over the years.
Above all, Jim shared 35 years of marriage with his loving wife, Patsy Buchanan.
Jim is survived by his wife, Patsy Buchanan; his sons, Jason Buchanan and Stephen Buchanan; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Buchanan; his brothers, Brian “Dog” Buchanan and Michael Buchanan; his sister, Sherry Buchanan; and his son, Robert “Bobby” Buchanan.
Jim will be remembered for his unmistakable personality, his remarkable knowledge of sports and history, his love of music, and the many conversations, stories, and memories he leaves behind.
Service arrangements will be announced once they have been finalized.

I had the pleasure of working with Jim 25 or so years ago in Ruston. He was a pleasure to talk to and work with. As many others said, I enjoyed listening to his banter with the guys on 97.7 as he was one of the more pleasurable callers they had. Sorry to hear of his passing. He will be greatly missed.

Jim was such a great man and is in so many of the memories I have with my Mammaw (Nellie). He would always come between Karleigh and me when we would fight after being together to long! Till I see you again, Jim! Hold my twin daughters for me and my husband and hug my Mammaw! I know they were all waiting for you!

I always loved to hear his call come in to the Nick Brown Show. It was a pleasure to know him on the radio and his calling made it feel like family. It was evident that his family was very important to him and that he loved them all very much. He will be greatly missed.
