Robert Lee Jones
July 6, 1949 – September 23, 2026 Aged 77 years
Robert Lee Jones, 77, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away on September 23, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories built around family, hard work, horses, and the ranching way of life he loved.
Bob was born on July 6, 1949, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, to Wade Jones and Leota Rennick Jones. Raised in Pawhuska, Bob developed an early appreciation for horses, livestock, and the determination and hard work that stayed with him throughout his life.
Bob proudly served in the National Guard and went on to build a successful career in the livestock and ranch industry. He owned and operated South Plains Livestock Management, LLC, and served as Regional Manager for Oppenheimer Industries for 11 years.
Horses held a special place in Bob’s heart. He loved ranch horses and was especially talented at training steer roping horses. His knowledge, experience, and passion for the ranch industry led him to serve on the Board of Directors for the Ranch Horse Program at Texas Tech University. Sharing his knowledge and supporting the next generation of the ranching community was an important part of his life.
Those who knew Bob knew that he was his own man. He was independent, strong-minded, and never afraid to follow his own path. He believed in doing things right, working hard, and standing behind what he believed in.
Beneath that independent spirit was a man deeply connected to his family, his horses, his friends, and the ranch community that surrounded him.
Bob shared 31 years of marriage with his loving wife, Diana Tackett Jones. Together, they built a life filled with family and memories that Diana will forever hold close to her heart.
Bob is survived by his wife, Diana Tackett Jones; his son, Birch Jones and wife Jami; his stepsons, Ty Moore and wife Sunny, and Nick Moore and wife Laura; his brothers, Mike Jones, Brett Jones, and Brady Jones; four grandsons; three granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.
He also leaves behind extended family, lifelong friends, fellow horsemen, ranchers, and countless others he came to know throughout his life and career.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wade Jones and Leota Rennick Jones.
Bob leaves behind more than a lifetime of accomplishments. He leaves behind a family who loved him, lifelong friendships, lessons shared, horses trained, and memories that will be told for generations.
As the sun sets over the pasture and another day’s work ends, Bob’s saddle may be empty, but the tracks he left behind will never fade. May the trails ahead be wide open, the horses sure-footed, and the ride peaceful. Until we meet again, ride easy, Cowboy.

Bob Jones was a man’s man. He was exceedingly bright and a true businessman in addition to being a great family man; a true cowboy; a loyal friend; and a devout Christian. Bob left a strong and honorable legacy along with a trail that will not be easily followed. Rest in peace, MY FRIEND.
