James Bradley Hughes

James Bradley Hughes, 74, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on August 14, 2026. Brad was born on September 23, 1951, in Davenport, Iowa, to James G. Hughes and Anna Lou Hughes. He attended the California College of Respiratory Therapy and went on to build a career as a Respiratory Therapist. Through his profession, Brad dedicated his working years to helping and caring for others.

Brad shared 56 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Ellen. Together, they built a life centered around family, love, and the many memories they created throughout their years together.

He was the proud father of his sons, James Brandon Hughes and wife, Linda Mae Hughes and Jackson Bradley Hughes; and his daughters, Jennifer Hughes and wife, Yvonne Perea; and Tiffany Hughes Gilbert and David Cook.

Brad was also a proud grandfather to Landan Hughes, Hayden Denny, Annie Gilbert, and Benny Gilbert.

He is also survived by his sister, Linda Hughes Smolka.

Brad had a special place in his heart for animals and especially loved his dogs, Rocky, Belle, Sophie, and Raisin. They brought him great companionship and happiness and were an important part of his life.

Brad was preceded in death by his parents, James G. Hughes and Anna Lou Hughes.

Brad will be remembered for the life he shared with Ellen, his devotion to his family, his years of service as a Respiratory Therapist, and the love he had for the animals who brought so much joy into his life. His memory will continue to live on through his wife, children, grandchildren, sister, extended family, and all those whose lives he touched.
