Elder Benny was born on December 26, 1938 in Ranger Texas, to Odessa Howell McDonald and Everett Benny Hanson. He passed away on July 9, 2026, after a short illness at the age of 87.

Benny worked as an owner-operator truck driver for various companies throughout his life. However, his passion for Christ ruled his heart. He was baptized in 1966 and later became an ordained deacon. He received his license to preach on May 13, 1973. Eleven months later, on April 13, 1974, he became an ordained minister. Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church in Breckenridge, Texas, was his spiritual home until he retired in 2005, after which he became a member of Indian Oaks Primitive Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas.

When he wasn’t working, he was active in 4-H with his children in Breckenridge. He also enjoyed talking on the CB radio with his trucking family, using the CB handle “Gentle Ben.” Benny was a resilient man who survived cancer twice. Though he later faced dementia, he never forgot his family. Benny was preceded in death by parents; his sister, Billie Jean Davis; and two brothers Vernon Evans and Geraldean Evans.

Benny will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Gwenna Lee Keith Evans; son, Allen Ray Evans; and daughter, Brenda Lee Evans Barron, all from Weatherford Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brian Prater and wife Latashua of Bunceton, Missouri, Linda Lee Barron Elkins and husband Wesley of Needville, Texas, and James Barron II and wife Janet of Jefferson, Texas; several great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren; his sister, Betty Jean Evans Gustafson of California; his brother, Jerry Hanson of Washington; his niece, Darla McDonald of Ranger, Texas who was raised as a sister; and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be led by Elder Larry Webb at Indian Oaks Primitive Baptist Church, 3229 Shawnee Trail, Fort Worth, TX 76135, on July 25, 2026 at 10 am. A luncheon will be served on-site at the conclusion of the services.

Elder Benny will be laid to rest at Harpersville Cemetery in Breckenridge, Texas with a graveside service to be announced at a future date.
